Healthy Foot Care Is More Than Wearing Nursing Shoes

Most people don’t pay attention to their foot health, but medical professionals who are constantly on their legs need to be extra careful. If they spend a few moments daily monitoring and caring for healthy feet, then they can tap their toes in joy. Nursing shoes are designed specifically to encourage comfort and strong feet. Wearing special shoes is not the only way to maintain healthy feet. Poor circulation can cause many infections and sores. If sores remain untreated, the chances of infection increase dramatically. It is important to inspect your feet every day. Look at the sides and tops your feet for any signs of hard, callused, bruised, or tender skin. Be on the lookout for potential corns or blisters. You should also be aware of redness, heat or warmth, and discolorations. To check the soles of your foot, you can either use a magnifying glass or ask a friend to help best nursing shoes.

You should wash your feet at least daily, and especially between the toes. Here, bacteria and fungus can grow. Before putting socks on, make sure to dry your feet completely after washing. The soaking of your feet can remove the protective oils and dry out your skin. You should also use a moisturizer cream that is unscented on your foot every day. However, do not apply it in between your toes. It is important to use moisturizer creams to prevent your skin from becoming dry or cracked, which can allow infections to begin. Trim your toenails evenly and straight across. You should make a rounded cut so as to not injure the next toe when wearing the nurse shoes. This could cause a painful spot. It’s best to trim toenails right after bathing, as your toenails have been cleaned and are soft. For toenail trim, it is best to avoid using scissors or clippers as they may slip and cause the skin to be broken. Have someone else trim toenails for you if they are too thick or you cannot reach the toes. If you are experiencing reduced sensation or circulation issues in your feet, it is important to consult your doctor immediately.

You should wear your socks or pantsyhose on a daily basis. They should be clean and fresh. If your socks or pantyhose are too tight, they can rub or cramp your toes. Socks that have holes, are loose or have seams may cause sores. Check the tops and bottoms of your shoe for uneven wear. This could be an indication of pressure areas on your feet. It is best to break in new shoes slowly by wearing them for just two or three hour at the start. After removing your shoes, check to see if there are any red or painful areas. Leather shoes are more breathable than other shoes. They also conform better to the shape and size of your feet, creating fewer pressures points.
